Many would argue that a business needs to be involved in their community in some way. What should this look like? Banners at events? Attending events?  For us, there has been a mix of both.

We’ve tried to help as many that come to us as possible. The most popular way we help our community is with Free Night Stay vouchers.  We’ve been tracking these since 2008 where we gave out 22 annually, now we are up to 63 annually. Doesn’t sound like much, but when you factor in the approximate value of the certificate, it is $10,000.

One year we made a donation to the United Way of South Niagara in lieu of Christmas cards, or sponsored a table at an Open Arms Mission & Pelham Mayor banquet (have to support our neighbours!)

In our everyday business, all un-opened non-perishable food left over by guests is collected and donated to shelters.  Towels that are no longer the quality we need have been donated to the Hope Centre with new soap bars included, or donated to the humane society to help our furry friends. 

One year we even pushed a bed down the street for the local Welland parade. Every year the staff contribute to a toy drive each Christmas to help fill the ‘Toy Train’ at the Seaway Mall centre court.  We even have yearly ‘Wear pink shirts’ for the year one of our own was affected by breast cancer & she’s now a survivor & back to work.

An impact on the community does not have to be a grand gesture costing lots of money, but those every day little things end up making a big impact, do it for your business, do it for your community, do it for yourself.
