Outdoor Art - A great pastime
- May 17, 2019
You’ve come to town for a special event, a sporting event, or just some rest & relaxation. You have a few hours to spare before your next appointment / game, so you ask the front desk ‘what is there to see around here?’
Grab your phone and let’s go exploring the local outdoor art. A website was created to explore all the local art in form of statue, sculpture, mural, monument, even a few totem poles throughout all of Niagara can be found at https://artintheopen.ca/explore
I would even add a form of art to the site –flower art. Welland has a number of large flower beds that display images with flowers; we’ve had turtle, Winnie the Poo, war of 1812, and many more.
Now back to the site. You can narrow down the search to your geographic local, or by style of art. All the art is located in areas that are no charge entry, with several in walking distance from the hotel such as a few Canoe Art pieces, Rod Dowling sculptures, Canal Monuments, Murals, even a little Welland Canal history.
Not savvy on your phone, a Guest Service Agent can point out a number of these points of interest on a local map so you can just bring your water bottle and have a wonderful walk around Welland.
Happy Explorations!
