When you travel, there are a few things that are always at the top of your ‘what’s important list’, and for me and for the purpose of this post, I would say; a hotel that is in a great location at the right price, and near some decent places to eat.

If you’ve had the pleasure of staying with us over the last few years, you should have seen the poster at the reception desk featuring the ‘Restaurant of the Month’.  Back in 2014, a staff suggested a cross promotion with local restaurants. They let our staff eat there once and we’ll promote it to our guests, letting them know we have ‘taste tested’ the restaurant we feature and we can also share our favorite dishes and experiences. Almost 5years later, staff and restauranteurs still love it.

This year we featured Blue Star Restaurant, Don Marco Italian Eatery, Black Sheep Lounge, Taris on the Water, Mr. Mike Steakhouse Casual, The Urban Steakhouse, Matteo Ristorante and The Ye Olde Squire Pub.  One catch, we only feature restaurants in Welland, with the exception for the last two years we had a Hawaiian restaurant in Pelham that we featured because of its uniqueness, but it has since closed.

Each front desk staff has their favorite dishes, so to help you choose on your next visit to Welland, I’ve put a photo of my ultimate favorite, which is from the Taris called the Welland Good Bowl.  Why is it my favorite, I have a few reasons.  Since I do not eat out often, I like the restaurant to be pretty, I like it to serve food I would not make myself at home, and this restaurant does both. The dish is light and fresh and not like anything I had ever ordered before. Add a protein to make it more hearty meal or stay without to keep it vegan.

If you must know, some of my other favorites include: Blue Star’s chocolate cream pie, Don Marco’s curry penny, Black Sheep Lounge’s menu changes seasonally so this likely won’t be on the menu, but all their food is extremely fresh and their pulled pork was sloppy and delish! Mr. Mike’s is very new so I have only been once and therefore won’t place my favorite dish yet, and the Ye Olde Squire has some delicious BBQ chicken flat bread
