Theatre!

  • August 16, 2019

With the hot summer days in full swing, maybe it’s a good idea to fill in some of your travel time with a show at a live theatre. Did you know Niagara is home to at least five?
The Showboat Festival Theatre is the closest to us and is a sister theatre to the one in London ON, the Lighthouse Festival Theatre.  The Lighthouse Theatre perfects the show, then they bring it down to Showboat in Port Colborne.  I’d describe this style of theatre as professional yet casual due to its quaint theatre setting. This season has two shows left, Prairie Nurse (based on a 1960’s true story) running from August 14 to 25th with 2pm & 8pm performances, then they bring in Lunenburg, a comedy by Norm Foster from September 11 to 22.  When coming for these shows, let you know and when you book your guest suite, you’ll save 15%.
The next two theatres offer shows that are a bit more of a production.  They have larger sets and larger venues.  In St Catharines there is the Performing Art Centre (PAC), and in Niagara on the Lake, we have the Shaw Festival. Each of these theatres offer well directed, and excellent productions. If I were going to one of these shows, I’d dress up a bit because of their more sophisticated environments.
Lastly, and not less important or entertaining, we have the dinner theatres. You love to watch a movie and eat, so what’s better than watching the show from your dining table?  The Greg Frewin Theatre offers a meal prior to the show, or pub food during the show.  His magic show is really a similar representation to what you would see in Vegas (I know, I have been a couple of times).  He has hosts other shows, like the Beauty & the Beast this summer, specials with ABBA, Elvis, etc. Check out the link below for more details.
The second dinner theatre, which is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, is the Oh Canada Eh in Niagara Falls. A true Canadian comedy with Canadian cuisine, they may even pick on a few audience members so watch out! It’s all in good fun, a great family venue. During the cooler months, the show will change the production to other shows like a Murder Mystery, Out of This World Christmas, Hitz of the 80’s!.
